What I Said Then: "A 'Kasarine Avatar' refers to Kasarax, another of the gods in our pantheon. Kasarax, according to our bible, 'was born in the moment when two desires came in conflict with one another. He is the god of war, of sport, and of debate or contest. Every weapon man can use is his, as is every tool. Whenever man pits himself against something or someone else, he is a worshipper of Kasarax.' This monster is one of his Avatars, in that it is a weapon/tool itself, and it has many limbs and many eyes, allowing it to operate at 'high function.' Plus, it looks cool."
I was so proud of all of this. Babydoll is not meant to be a big part of the story, but she is meant to add texture. She's meant to show us that monsters exist in the Known World and she's meant to make the world more fully fleshed out. I openly lobbied for us to make Babydoll merch -- imagine a t-shirt with a picture of Babydoll that just says, "She likes to feel pretty." (Will was not buying it.)
