A Random, Unpleasant Thought

I just realized that I don't really believe in unconditional love. I certainly don't believe that I've ever received any. I'd like to think that I'm capable of giving unconditional love, but I think what I'm actually capable of is keeping my word.

Maybe it's not that I don't believe in unconditional love. Maybe it's that I believe another cliché -- that love is a verb...an active verb. You have to choose to love in order to make the love real. If you don't keep in practice, your ability to love atrophies.

I don't know if the people in my life -- myself included -- are getting enough practice reps.
