I'm lucky to have been writing professionally for almost two decades now, and for most of that time, I've been editing my own material. I knew that I was good enough to do this professionally when I learned how to recognize when what I was writing was bad, thankfully it didn't happen often, and to keep writing anyway. I know the importance of a completed first draft, because that is the foundation for excellent storytelling, something with a beginning, middle, and end.
