Hunter Black Page 71 - Nothing Personal, Guy

This page is serving two masters and I think it speaks to my strong writerly instincts. This is not self-aggrandizement -- I was writing by the seat of my pants in these days. I had done very little planning of the story and was writing by the seat of my pants. A good friend of mine once told me that my writing is so engaging that it can fool you into enjoying bad writing, and I'm forced to admit that maybe he wasn't wrong.

This page does all the right things. It brings us back to Hunter, which is what everyone wants, but it also keeps us from having to try showing action that lives up to our billing of Maliya Pel being the baddest ass in the Known World. I remember believing that anything we did with her in combat would be mostly a let-down. I didn't think that either Will or I could live up to the hype in crafting that scene, so why show it?
