Hunter Black Page 24 - He Knows More Than He Should

At this point, I was really just finishing the set up of the scene to come. Up until this point, there's no conflict between Hunter and Iosephus -- and I needed there to be some. But every scene needs to do at least one of two things, advance story or reveal character. (Preferably both.)

So Hunter's here looking for information, that's the plot piece. But Hunter's not exactly in a diplomatic frame of mind, while Iosephus is a trader. Everything with him is a negotiation and he's going to get as much as he can. Hunter never folds and Iosephus always has cards that he's not showing.

This whole scene is kinda rough, looking back on it now, but it's effective. I think we managed both to move the story along and to give the readers a bit more insight into our main character while introducing someone destined to be a recurring problem. Not bad, I guess.
